Different foam options for a boat mattress

Written by The Foam Factory

There are a few options when it comes to replacing a boat mattress. Below are the most popular options:

Compressed poly

Considered an alternative to foam, this is highly compressed polyester. The problem with this option is that it compresses and looks depleted after a few years. The good news is that unlike certain types of foam it does not go yellow or disintegrate.

Poly fiberfill

Polyester fiberfill is what you will inside pillows. Although you will find some cushion replacement products contain fiberfill, these are mostly used for pillow protectors. Poly fiberfill, just like compressed poly is not foam, but blown polyester fibers. Any cushion or pillow where comfort is a priority, there is a chance that it will contain some poly fiberfill.

Polyurethane foam

Ideal for marine and other water-borne uses, polyurethane foam is the most affordable type of foam. The foam has biocide treatment which prevents mold and fungus from developing. This is good as mattress foam on boats.

Open cell foam

Another type of foam that is good for outdoor use along with exposure to moisture and water. Open cell foam has pores which allow the liquid to drain through. Almost maintenance free, open cell is perfect for outdoor cushions and is extremely comfortable.
